NSW: Driver killed and badly burned in crash on NSW south coast

SYDNEY, Dec 13 AAP - The identity of a driver of a car that crashed and caught on fire on the state's south coast overnight may be unknown for some time.

Police say about 2.30am (AEDT) on Saturday, the driver's Commodore sedan rounded a bend before it crashed into a tree and caught fire along The Wool Lane, St Georges Basin.

Due to extensive burns sustained by the driver, police say establishing the identity and cause of death might take some time.

A post mortem examination is expected to be conducted in Wollongong within the next few days.
